Preparing for a Fat Transfer

What should I buy before my surgery?

What to purchase from your local drugstore:

  • Hibiclens soap (antimicrobial skin cleanser)
  • Ferrous Sulfate (Iron) 325 mg tablet. You would begin taking this medication one month prior to your surgery, as well as after your procedure until Dr. Mendieta orders to discontinue it.
  • Magnesium Citrate—not to be confused with Milk of Magnesia
  • Prescribed medications prior to surgery day
  • Mylanta—sometimes patients experience heartburn reflux after surgery.
  • Thick gauze, also known as abdominal pads or surgical pads. These are usually found at your local drug store. They are used over incision sites to avoid drainage.
  • Adult diapers

Also bring:

  • Large plastic bags (garbage bags that can be split with scissors if needed) to place under your bed sheets and car seat for the ride home. You will be draining fluid for the first three to four days after surgery.
  • BBL pillow—these can be ordered through Amazon, or you can purchase them at our office while supplies last.
  • Two garments
  • Recommended: Arnica pills and gel. Our office uses Arnica gel for post-surgery massages; you may want to purchase it for massages at home. We also recommend taking Arnica pills as directed by the manufacturer. These can be found at GNC and Vitamin Shoppe.

Surgery Day

Before Plastic Surgery

  • Do not eat or drink after midnight.
  • Shower using Hibiclens soap on the night before and the morning of your surgery.
  • No jewelry, cream, deodorant, or makeup the morning of surgery.
  • If anxious the night before surgery, you may take a Valium. Please set an alarm clock.
  • Pack your bag for surgery: all medications, one garment/sports bra/jockstrap, adult pull up diaper, loose-fitting clothes that open in the front, sandals.
  • Prepare the car and bed for when you leave. Cover the seats with trash bags or a shower curtain and chuck pads.
  • Make sure your caretaker is available to take you home and care for you for a minimum of 24 hours. In an effort to protect patient privacy, we ask that you limit your companion to one person.
  • Arrive at your scheduled arrival time.
