The bumpy “cottage cheese” appearance of cellulite on the abdomen, thighs or buttocks is undesirable, but it is a condition that affects many people. An estimated 85-90% of adult women have some cellulite on their body. Even though it is common, many women want to smooth the bumpy appearance. Diet and exercise will not remove cellulite – it is a condition that affects the fibrous tissues below the skin, not a fat deposit problem. Dr. Mendieta at 4Beauty Aesthetic Institute for Plastic Surgery offers effective minimally-invasive options for laser cellulite treatment at our medical spa in Miami, FL.

What Causes Cellulite?
Cellulite is caused when the fat layer below the skin is uneven due to the position and tightness of fibrous bands called septae. These bands connect the skin to the muscle underneath. If they are too tight, they can pull the skin down in irregular patterns, causing dimples or puckering in the skin. If they weaken, fat can push upward in small lumps. Cellulite tends to worsen with age as the collagen and elasticity in skin and tissue decrease. While those who are overweight are more prone to cellulite, people of all sizes and shapes can experience cellulite and may want to seek cellulite treatment to smooth their stomach, thighs or buttocks.
Am I a Good Candidate for Cellulite Treatment?
If you have cellulite that makes you feel self-conscious to wear shorts, swimsuits or be seen naked, you may be a candidate for cellulite treatment. Healthy individuals that are not significantly overweight who want smoother skin and fewer bumps of cellulite can benefit from laser treatments for cellulite removal. The procedure is minimally-invasive and uses laser technology to tighten the skin and release some of the tight septae to improve the appearance of cellulite in the targeted areas.
Cellulite Treatment Recovery and Results
Cellulite removal or treatment can be performed as an outpatient procedure at our med spa in Miami. The treatment is minimally-invasive with very little discomfort during the procedure – the area can be numbed to minimize any pain. Most treatments can be performed in about an hour, or sometimes longer for larger or multiple areas. Patients can go home after their treatment and may need 1-2 days to recover, depending on the treatment performed.
Results can require a few to several weeks to achieve as the collagen levels increase and the skin and tissue heal. It is important to have realistic expectations. Cellulite cannot be completely removed, but the area can be smoothed and tightened for an improved appearance. Results could last a year or more before additional treatments may be needed to maintain a smooth appearance.

Cellulite Treatment FAQs
How many treatments are needed for cellulite removal?
Many patients achieve the desired results from their cellulite removal treatment in one session. However, repeated treatments may be needed for long-term maintenance.
Where can cellulite treatment be performed?
The most common areas are the thighs, buttocks and abdomen, but cellulite can also be removed on upper arms, calves or other areas with bumpy fat under the skin.
Can cellulite treatments be combined with other cosmetic procedures?
Yes. In some cases, cellulite treatment is performed in conjunction with liposuction, tummy tucks or body lift procedures. The treatment may not be completed at the same time, but the procedures can complement each other to create a more toned, youthful appearance to the targeted area.
Is cellulite removal only for women?
While women are more prone to cellulite than men, all genders can benefit from cellulite treatment if they have bumpy cellulite to be removed. Contact our med spa in Miami to schedule a consultation to determine if you are a good candidate for laser cellulite removal.
