I regularly perform buttock augmentation at my Miami, Florida plastic surgery practice. The two techniques I regularly use for butt augmentation on my patients are fat transfer (also called fat grafting) and buttock implants.
Patient selection is key to minimizing complications. In most cases, fat grafting is the first choice for buttock augmentation. This procedure has the added benefit of using liposuction to remove unwanted fat from other areas of the body, such as the stomach, lower back, hips, and/or “love handles.” Once the fat is removed, it is prepared and then strategically injected into different layers of the muscle of the buttocks. However, if the patient does not have enough fat that can be obtained through liposuction, buttock implants can be a safe choice.*
When performing a buttock augmentation with butt implants, there are several incision locations that can be used for this procedure that are both safe and effective.* However, in my experience, the best incision location is down the center of the sacrum between the cheeks of the buttocks. This incision location is preferred because the scars are hidden inside the cheeks and will not be detectable after surgery.*
During surgery, two parallel incisions are made inside the cheeks of the buttocks. These incisions are approximately 4 to 6 centimeters in length and end just above the tailbone. Although a single incision can be used in this location, this poses a higher risk for complications, including having the incision open. Therefore, I prefer and recommend using two incisions between the cheeks of the buttocks.*
During your initial consultation, we will discuss your health history and desired outcome for the procedure. I will then assess your physical anatomy and help guide you toward making the right decisions about your butt augmentation surgery, including the location of the incisions.*
